How to encrypt windows 7 using truecrypt

Or you can follow through this guide as well. Select the last option Encrypt the system partition or entire system drive and go to Next. You now have the choice to only encrypt the system partition or the entire drive. You now have to option whether to encrypt the hidden hosted area or not. In the next screen, choose Single-boot if you only have one system running, or choose Multi-boot. And then go to Next. You now have the choices choosing encryption options.

Another words, you are safe with AES, so far. Pick up a password, and move to Next. The longer and the more complicated, the better. But since you will be typing in this password every time when you turn on your computer, you need to pick one that is also easy to remember. A good pass phase might work better in this case.

The longer you move the better. Click Yes, if a UAC window pops up. Choose a place to save the rescue disk image file and go to Next. Windows Disc Image Burner program opens up automatically. You can also save the rescue disk image file in a safe place as a backup as well. Back to the TrueCrypt wizard once the burning process is finished. It will increase the cryptographic strength of the encryption keys and hence security will also increase.

Now select the Filesystem from drop down menu. Now click on Format button. Step 10 : It will start the process of creating the TrueCrypt volume. After the process is complete you will see a notification window as shown in the screenshot below. Click OK button. Step A window will appear asking you to create another Truecrypt volume. Click on Exit button. Step Now we have to mount the volume we created on the drive letter.

To perform this task go to TrueCrypt window which is open. If it is not open then launch the application again. You will see lots of drive letters. Select any of the given letter.

Here I have selected the drive H. Now click on Select file button to browse to the container file which we have created in previous steps. Step 13 : Browse the file and select the container file. Step Everything is done. Now we have to mount the selected file himanshufile on H drive. To do this click on Mount button. Step It will ask you for password which you set up in step 8.

If you want to take it a step further, TrueCrypt will let you create a hidden folder, partition or whole operating system that no one will know is there. Today in my tutorial I am going to cover how to install TrueCrypt, create an encrypted volume and mount the encrypted volume on your PC. Creating a hidden partition or hidden operating system requires more work and additional knowledge so I will cover these topics in a separate post. Please note that this tutorial shows how to install TrueCrypt and use it on a Windows machine, but it will be similar in other operating systems.

How to install TrueCrypt on Windows machine :. Step 6: Install to the default location. This does not need to be the location you are going to encrypt. This is makes it possible to restore Windows to a previous state if anything goes wrong. Step 9: A window will popup telling you that TrueCrypt has been successfully installed on your machine.

Step 6: Browse to the location where you want to create the encrypted folder and name the folder. All of the encryption options in TrueCrypt are good and provide a challenge to an individual trying to access your files. Step Type the password of your choice in password field. This password will be used as decrypting the encrypted folder. Step You can also combine the password with keyfiles.
