Vista loads but nothing works

Joined Apr 27, Messages What message do you get in IE8 when you're not able to browse? Is it "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"? Open a command prompt and type "nslookup google. Does it ever say "DNS request timed out"? You could also try disabling IPv6 in Vista. I'd hate to see you give up on Vista so early. The error I get when I open a web page is Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.
I am not sure the steps to check and remove firewalls. That might be my issue. I verified that 'work offline' isn't set. Any other ideas. It displays server, address, non-authoritative answer: name and addresses, so that looks like it worked.
Closed alll browsers and started again - still getting Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. Other ideas? On IE8's "cannot display the webpage" message, have you tried clicking "Diagnose Connection Problems"? That'll start Vista's built-in Network Diagnostics. Vista's net diagnostics have fixed my connection issues on many an occasion. Besides that, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. I have tried a recovery several times and nothing works. If I try normal load I just get a black screen with no keyboard, mouse, nothing as it attemps to load windows.
Safe mode will give me a cursor and a screen saver after awhile. I really don't want to reload everything over again. Any thoughts? Also how do I do a backup if I can't boot into the system? Neosmart contains the contents of the Windows Vista DVD's "recovery center," as we've come to refer to it. Technically, one could re-create this installation media with freely-downloadable media from Microsoft namely the Microsoft WAIK kit, a multi-gigabyte download ; but it's damn-decent of Microsoft to make this available to Windows' users who might not be capable of creating such a thing on their own.
Data Recovery:. When the desktop loads, you will see at least two hard drive icons on the desktop one for your hard drive and one for the USB drive. Now find the files you want to back up and drag and drop them to the USB drive. When you are finished, shut down the system and remove the USB drive.
